First Home Buyer Stamp Duty Concession to end
The Tasmanian Government has announced that first home buyer stamp duty concession is officially coming to an end on 30 June 2026.
Under the current Tasmanian Government scheme, eligible first home buyers purchasing an established home valued at $750,000 or less can receive a 100% exemption from stamp duty (property transfer duty).
Since the introduction to the 100% concession rate, this has enabled first home buyers to save up to $28,900.00 (based on Purchase Price).
For many buyers, eliminating stamp duty has made the difference between entering the market now or waiting several more years to save a larger deposit.
From 1 July 2026, eligible first home buyers purchasing established homes will revert to paying normal stamp duty rates unless any future policy changes are announced.
It is critical that Purchasers understand that concession is based on the date of settlement and not the Contract signing date.
What impact this has on first home buyers and the market in general is yet to be seen.
